10 Things You Need To Be A Successful Artist

  1. Belief

In yourself, your art, your timeline. Have delusional belief.

  2. Consistency

Showing up every day to work on your art. Taking time to learn, to hone the skills needed to bring your vision to life. You don’t need 7 hours a day — 30 minutes will do. Hell, start with 5.

  3. Patience

This shit won’t happen overnight. This type of work is a marathon, not a sprint. One step at a time and you’ll get there.

  4. Discernment (not judgement)

Discernment is about making the right choices for the work. It has zero ego involved. Judgement has so much ego, it’s pooping ego, because judgement has blame and shame attached to it. Avoid judgement — it will kill your art.

  5. Courage

It’s a brave act to commit to, show up for and share your art. Courage is needed.

  6. Detachment

Don’t let your worth as a beautiful human soul rest on whatever people say about your art. It is not you. You’re so much more.

  7. Trust

In the process, yourself, your art, your gut, intuition, Muse.

  8. Self-Validation

Listen to other’s opinions. Consider them — they could be helpful but know that your opinion is the most important one when it comes to your art. Validate your choices, be on your own side.

  9. Ability to Ask for Help

We can’t do this very hard thing on our own. When you need it, ask for help.

  10. Love

Don’t let the love of what you do get bogged down by a bunch of distractions, fear or rejections. Remember why you make art — because you love it.
